Strep B with a skin rash

OK. Here's what I know. Indeed you can have a rash with Strep. Whether it's A or B, I don't know that it matters. Also, it's unclear whether they did a special test on your child to determine it was viral. Usually, they do a culture and sensitivity which indicates bacterial infection if it comes back positive for a specific organism. Anyway, from experience and the doctors I dealt with, I know that you can get a rash when the strep infection has become systemic. In my case it went on so long before anyone would culture my throat because they said it "didn't look bad in there", so they kept giving me the same antibiotic, even though I kept saying how bad it hurt and how bad I felt along with fever. I finally had to go to the emergency room and even the doc there was not going to do anything until I became very testy with him. Suffice it to say he cultured my throat and drew blood. He then apologized profusely and said I indeed had strep and everything else growing in there, because it had gone on so long. Gave me antibiotic injections and I improved a lot, but not completely. However I then developed the rash and even though I never had one in my life before, the docs kept saying it was probably nerves. I don't know what your child's rash is like, but this one would suddenly erupt with raised, linear areas, pink at the base or surrounding tissue and somewhat lighter or maybe whitish on the raised areas, and the itch and sting would start as suddenly as it appeared. Within a few minutes, it would change form to maybe little rounded bumps and eventually clear up in that area. They would appear anywhere on my body and be pretty constant. I finally did research and found out that Strep caused exactly the same rash I had. It took a dermatologist to have this knowledge and culture my throat again and treat me with the proper antibiotics. The rash never came back again. Hope this helps. Sorry it's so long. Good luck
