I'm 39 and had hip bursitis for 6 months now. Have tried anti inflammatories, these worked for a few weeks but stopped after that. Have found walking, particularly up-hill, worsens the pain. Accupuncture has provided the greatest relief so far. Have treatments twice weekly. Arrived at a pain free stage only to go back to square one with a long walk (many up hills). Will now go back to acupuncture. Have also had deep tissue massage to release the Iliotibial band. This combined with acupuncture was great. At it's worst, the pain includes my lower back. The acupuncturist uses points there as well which provide great relief. Have recently been diagnosed with low thyroid function. Has anyone heard of the connection with bursitis? Have heard of leg lifts, how are these done? I do yoga (less often since bursitis) and find anything where I lift my leg hurts across front of groin. Now have a general weakness in whole hip area. Leg 'flops' to side when lying on my back. Have previously been a fit and active person. Walking, yoga, swimming & bike riding. Reduced to just swimming these days. Any good news would be welcome along with specific treatment regimes.
