I was recently diagnosed with cervical cancer and had a conization which removed 3 1/2 mm mass. I was told prior to surgery that if there was no cancer found in the margins I would not require a hyterectomy. No cancer was in the margins. My doctor insists that due to the size of the mass there is no assurance that it hasn't spread to the lymph nodes and a radical hysterectomy is absolutley necessary. I am confused. Are there any tests that can be done before I under go major surgery to make sure I really need it?
