I have a friend who was diagnosed with hep c two years ago, he took the treatment (interferon) for one year. Two months after finishing and after being on statins to lower his cholesterol, he started feeling ill. His liver enzymes were very high, his doctor ordered him to stop the statins, shortly thereafter the liver enzymes started to go down to normal, however the bilirubin continued to rise, and is currently at 21. He is weak and fatigued, very jaundice and has horrible itching. Could this simply be a drug reaction from the statins, or is it possible that he has liver damage from the hep C? he is having an ERCP done to check for blockage of the duct. Help me to better understand this. Does it seem like the doctors are doing the right thing? After his interferon therapy was over they checked for hep C and said it wasn't present.
