My son (6) and daughter (9 months) had to have the rabies vaccine after possible rabies exposure from a bat. My daughter handled it well, but my son did not. He reacted after each vaccine with a headache and fever. He became very nervous after that also. Ever since, he is terrified of bats, the dark and of course, needles! I am not sure if your son is having a nervous reaction or not, but I would certainly have it checked out. You can contact your local Department of Public Health. They have staff on hand to answer all your questions and were very helpful with me. I found that most people (including medical personnel) thought that the kids getting the vaccine was ridiculous and I resented that! If there was any possible chance that my kids were exposed to rabies, I would rather have a few shots and a few fears than to not have them here at all! Good luck!
