Autism Spectrum Disorder Future of my son??

Carrie

Message 1 of 1

Hello, My son is 7 years old. I suspected a language delay since he was 2 years old. I had him assessed at the Providence Childrens Center at that time and asked if he was Autistic. The testing came out negitive, and I was told he was just language delayed. Finally when he was going into Kindergarten, (6years old)after the public school preschool,,I went to the University of Washington Child Development Center. He was then diognosed with the "mild" range of ASD. I have been fighting with the local school district on his placement. The put him in a "life skills" self contained class for kindergarten, and into the beginning of this year. We found a great inclusion program with another school district very close. Problem is,,how do we make our neighborhood school district understand that our children need an environment appropriate to teaching the natural interactions and peer socialization. We know what the local laws are. But who can afford an attorney to make a school district comply? We live in the Arlington area of Washington State. And, are there any ASD adults out there that remember thier childhood? I would sure like to have an insite to what helped them to become successful.. Thank YOu for your time..... Carrie
