I had trigeminal neuralgia since 1992. At first doctors prescribed tegretol, and that helped for a while. When I had to take more than the maximum dosage, I finally got into the Mayo Clinic. They tried the least invasive treatment first--the Gamma Knife--but that did not work. Next they tried glycerol injections and they worked. I had trigeminal neuralgia on both sides with involvement of all three branches of the nerve on each side, so mine was difficult to treat. But I would recommend the Mayo Clinic.
