I was diagnosed last February with carpal tunnel syndrome. This took me by surprise since I had a spinal fusion in February of 1999 and after the surgery my neurosurgeon said if the numbness in my hands did not go away wihtin 6 months-1 year after surgery he would consider it permanent nerve damage. I had these symptoms of CTS starting in March of 1997 and they progressively got worse and my entire arm was being affected. When my MRI was done the neurologist suggested surgery beause of C-5/C-6 degeneration and no mention was made of CTS. I was given an EMT test but no median nerve conduction studies were done. Now almost two years later, I still have the CTS symptoms and was formally diagnosed on Feb. 15th 2000. When I had the second test done last month the Dr said it was caused by my work. I have only been working the last three months and was diagnosed with this in Feb. 2000 before I started working. I believe that it was caused by my previous employment. I think it was missed because of the focus on my neck injury. Does doing nothing cause CTS? Thank you, Heidi Leonard
