Had distal realignment of my knee and then fell eight days later and broke my Tibia. I began having problems when I put wight back into the foot. Swelling and heat cold and muscle spasms. I then started noticing the swelling going down and yet the pain remained. I went through physcial Therapy and finished that. I then went and had a nerve conduction test done and the doctor said he thought it was atypical RSD. Since the test I have been in so much pain Demerol is not cutting it. I want to know what kind of things help and what to ask my doctor about. I keep hearing that RSD can be treated. What types of things help. I have been told by the doctor who diagnosed the condition that it can go away. I have seen many people who have had RSD after Strokes or leg fractures who it never did go away. Does it or doesn't it? What causes RSD? To much firing of the nerve? How does the nerve cause dystrophy. Is it because people do not want to use the limb? or is it that the nerve causes damage to the muscles and that leads to dystrophy. I am allergic to all pain killers except morphine and demoral. Is there other meds that can treat RSD? I am on anti inflamitories and a drug cold neurotin. Is this the best meds? Thanks
