In 1988 I had a minor car accident at which time I injured my left knee. What was nothing more then a bruise at the time turned in to a 12 year 25 operations (I&D aka incision and drainage, skin grafts, muscle flap, removal of my patella). I will be 35 years old in a few days and I am about to have another major surgery. I spend 95% of my time in severe pain and the other 5% in or at hospitals. I have been told the reason for this is because while I was growing up I had to take heavy doses of steriods several years for a severe asthmatic condition, and my immune system was damaged as a result. While the steriods saved my life they also destroyed a part of it. I have been told by physcians in the past that I was going to lose my leg. While I am thankful to see each and everyday and I realize that there are people who suffer from much worse, I hold on for the day when I am pain free and walking with a steady gait. This July I relocated from New York after 34 years to a more stable climate in California. While I have been to surgeons ranging from the worst to the best I am still looking.I have had such a range of antibotics that my body is beginning to resist them.
