I had a tetanus shot fourteen years ago and soon after started having pain in my armpit. I found an enlarged lymph node and since there was concern about why it was enlarged, I had it removed. It was discovered to be benign but I was told that it was possibly due to the tetanus shot and that I should not have the shot again. Well, here it is fourteen years later and I worry everytime I cut myself outside about not being protected. You are told to have a tetanus booster every ten years to have protection. So I recently asked a doctor about it and just took a blood test to test my immunity levels to see if they are still active enough to protect me. I have checked with an allergist and they said they are unsure what to do with a person that has a reaction to tetanus and how to test to see if they are allergic. I realize that this does not help you with your current problem except that I also had pain but it only lasted about a month. But if you are told about not taking tetanus again, I wanted to let you know of my experience and that I am still trying to find an answer to what to do after the reaction. Write me back if I can help you or let you know of any more information that I have found.
