Donna, Hi, my name is Michelle. I am 21 and a survivor of osteosarcoma. I was diagnosed when I was 18. I wish I could tell you everything, but I will try to keep it short. What I will say is your friend's recovery depends on how far the cancer has advanced. Is it just in the bone or has it spread to the lungs or other bones? Mine was only located in the bone of my left femur (knee) and it had not spread. I caught it early. My treatment consisted of 10 months of chemotherapy, that was complete HELL. I was in the hospital for the whole 10 months. Too sick to move. I have a complete knee replacement which is better than amputation which was the doctor's choice. I live with the fear everyday that it will come back, but (thank god)it hasn't. Your friend is going to need a lot of support and love. He/She is about to go through pure hell. And before it is over he/she will swear the treatment is going to kill them. But it does work. They will have to find strength from within to be able to get through it.
