Teri
I would like any and all information you could share about this disorder. My husband of three months, was diagnosed in 1996 with it. It was 2/3 the length of his spine. He had surgery and a shunt was placed in his back. An MRI in 1998 showed a normal spinal cavity. In August of this year, he started experiencing the pain in his left arm, loss of feeling (he works with hot raw fiberglass and gets burned all the time and doesn't feel it). He went to his doctor who at first thought it was carpal tunnel syndrome. Another MRI revealed a second syrinx at his T 3/T 4 vertbrae. He is scheduled for a second surgery Oct. 4th. Our questions are many. We want to know if lifting heavy items can cause this to reoccur. He lifts 50lbs every few minutes at his job. How often does this reoccur? His job is trying to place him on long term disability (he is only 34 years old!)or medically retire him. I guess we are just scared of this reoccuring again and him having to have more and more surgeries on his spine. He had to have a plate placed on his cervical vertbrae, so this makes the third surgery in less than four years. Someone please send us some information. Anything will help... Thanks in advance! Sincerely, Teresa and David Rhodes
