Mary
Dear Karen My name is Mary, and I have been fighting AS since 1993 I am now 40. It is hard to determine how fast AS progresses. It seems to progress faster in men than women. I have not really noticed a difference in diet, but any healthy diet for any chronic disease is a good idea. Wheat, corn and milk, beef, sugar, potatoes, and tomatoes I am told makes inflamation worse. Research of AS is the best way to fight it. Exerise is a must and ask the Rheumatologist about DMARDS as a medication. They can slow down AS, but they do have many side effects. There are alot of other conditions that go along with AS. Sleeping face down can ease pain at night. No hot baths, but warm ones in the morning and before bed. Try to stay away from steriods, they are not the best of treatment, and doctors love them because you wont bug them. Good Luck and Knowledge is the best way to win a battle like AS. Mary
