I have Idiopathic PF. Which means the cause is unknown. My doctor tells me that PF can reach a certain point & progress no more. He has PF patients who have lived for 30 years with no change in their condition. In the event it does progress. Here are the phases. 1) Extreme shortness of breath requiring oxygen to sustain life. 2) Lung transplant. 3) Death from suffocation. Phase 1 and 2 can keep a patient alive for many years, with death coming at the end of a normal life span. In the meantime a medical breakthrough could solve the PF riddle and result in a permanent cure. I know my comments may seem hard, but with only 48% of my lung capacity left to me, it's a reality that I am also facing right now.
