On August 14th I had a total thyroidectomy. My surgeon assured me the vocal chords were intact and after a few days my voice began to return somewhat. Not at the strength it once was and I've been unable to sing except some very low notes. when I spoke with the surgeon at my post-op visit, he said during surgery there was no damage and they looked great, but now he noted redness and swelling. Well, the next day I was scheduled for gall bladder surgery because of a diseased gall bladder (everything seems to happen at once!!) and I was concerned because they were going to intubate me again for the gases in anesthesia. I found a forum where a gal said she had been told not to sing for 3-6 months, & to even limit talking so as not to stress out her vocal chords. It is really bothering me, the swelling seems to be choking me. I live in a small town and not sure who to talk to about this. Has anyone else experienced this? any help would be appreciated.
