Am sharing caregiving with sister of our 83 year old mom, who has lived in a wheelchair (congenital defect of nerves in spine 11 years ago). We are involved in an endless cycle of refusal to drink more fluids, requests for laxatives on a daily basis (senekot, metamucil, milk of magnesia, etc), enemas, suppositories, and occasional trips to the ER for "high blockage" clearance. I am looking for dietary information we can implement to attempt to control this problem. We have been told that this is also a side-effect from the pain management medications she ingests every day...valium and elavil. Is there anyone out there who can give me some advice and help? Thanks!
