My mother, who is 84 years old, used a dye on her hair which may have been the cause of itchy rashes on her back. Her primary care physician prescribed prednisone 10 mg twice a day. She took the prednisone for a week and her abdomen swelled and she developed a cyst on her shoulder. She stopped taking the prednisone as well as lipitor (for high cholesterol). Now she has nerve pain, which she describes as horrific) in her entire back. Doctor took chest x-ray and blood tests for shingles (she has no blisters) and test came back clear. Has anyone had this drug reaction to prednisone? Now she is scheduled to see a dermitologist the end of September. She is a person who never complains so I really believe her when she says the pain is horrific. She describes it as a burning and tingling pain.
