I don't have sickle cell anemia but do have AVN and no cartilege in my hip. There is no arthritis in the bone. Its just one of those things...I guess. Its made my life a living hell Tonya. I canot work out anymore. I can' even bike ride which I love because my leg locks...it hurts. I feel disabled. I am in Cleveland and am seeing a doctor through the Cleveland Clinic. and don't know if they are updated in there procedures as much as Mayo which I believe offers a conservative hip replacment for younger patients. I would love to hear from you...I feel totally helpless. And its embarassing. People don't know how to react ...I know when I get the new hip. I will be back to normal within a few months. And so will you. We are'n't older patients with other more serious issues. Our bodies can heal easier. Its a big thing. BUt I know it will be worth it. I also had a cortisone injection several months ago...it helped significantly for about 1 month. But they don't like to do that often because its supposedly dangerous. Kathy
