I don't know about it being related to your menstrual cycles, but I had the problem all my life until I red Dr. Julian Whitaker's book. I could not afford the commercial stool softeners. He recommended what turned out to be the best and cheapest solution for me: go to Health Food Store and purchase Flax Seed Meal (has to be refrigerated), finely ground oat bran and psyllium powder. Mix 2 parts psyllium to one part eah oat bran and flax seed meal. Put in container and keep refrigerated. I use a quart jar, making a batch of 2 cups psyllium, and 1 cup each flax meal and oat bran, label and keep in fridge. With each meal, I take 1 level teaspoon with a glass of water. Some people have to adjust the amount they take as Flax is a natural laxative (mild). You sound as if you have a spastic colon or IBS (about) the same. Also eliminate dairy products except low fat yogurt and see if that helps as I'm lactose intolerant and it aggravated the problem. The green color could be from eating things like spinach or foods high in iron, but you should have a good checkup with a Gasterologist to rule out unknown problems. Hope this helps.
