I have had severe constipation all of my life. I am now 46. Two years ago I was FINALLY diagnosed with Celiac Disease after a small bowel biopsy (by the way..easy and painless). For the vast majority of Celiac Disease sufferers constipation is NOT one of the symptoms. QUITE the opposite!! I encourage you to check with your gastroenterologist about this. There is a blood screening that can be done first, but the only way to prove positive of this disease is the biopsy. Unfortunately, having changed my diet to be gluten free (The protein gluten found in wheat, rye, oats, barley is what Celiac's must avoid) I am still very,very constipated. Infact that is why I found this site. I am in severe distress. Emergency room sent me home last week with no answer, no solution and it's getting worse. I am in terrible pain and look like I am 7-8 months pregnant! Help!
