Maggie
I went thru this problem at length last summer and the three years before -- finally my doctor put me on extra estrogen (Estrace) and I also use a premarin cream on the outside. It has built up the lining of the vagina -- believe me, we tried everything, includ- ing 2-3 times of diflucan a week for ages; multiple creams, etc. I still take diflucan once a week prophylactically also. I also use gynelotrimin occasionally. It is a frustrating problem but the estra estrogen helped the most. I can tell you both my gyn and myself were totally frustrated -- one day he came into the exam room and said, "He thought about my "problem" all night, and while he was brushing his teeth, he wondered if I could have HIV"? I sat up on the exam table and screamed "You mean as in AIDS?" and he said -- "yes, because of multiple surgeries I had in the past few years. However, as humiliating as having the AIDS test was, it was negative -- having been thru everything known to woman for yeast infections that are chronic -- try the estrace by mouth and certainly the estrogen cream on the outside -- it takes about 6 weeks to notice any difference with the estrogen cream -- and you will have to also rub in gynelotrimin at the same time --- just don't give up.
