hi ian, my name is BJ.i was diagnosed of distonia 1 yr. ago in my left hand.i didn't really pay attention to it because the doc. said there wasn't anything that could be done to it.but now i worry if this will progress and make my hand worse or progress to another part of my body.i have a focal dystonia that is only at my hand so far.my hand will "lock up" on me when i am doing simple things, like braiding hair, cutting a steak,or pulling a string or rope.when it does,my thumb, forefinger, and middle finger lock up alltogether at the same time.now i won't even use my left hand at the dinner table.sometimes i hide it.i drop things easily ,and if i wear any jewelwry on that hand i don't even realize when i lose it.will,my hand get worse?is there anything i can do to better the situation?please write back to me.i hope you are ok and please hang in there.
