My mother was recently diagnosed with this disease, and a week ago underwent surgery to help this. She had a type 2 malformation and they went in and did a compression and took out her first and second vertabrae to make room for the tonsil. She has about a 7 inch incision on the back of her head. It took them 6 hours to do the surgery and she is now home. She is having severe headaches and sharp pains down the sides of her head. Also, alot of nausea, I'm sure from the surgery and pain meds. She also is taking muscle relaxer to help the spasms. Her main complaint going into this was she was having a hard time swallowing and tingling in her fingers. She also had ringing in her ears. Bouts of nausea and muscle weakness. On top of this she has Lupus. So it was hard for her to pin point this. They found out from an MRI. They then found out she had a 2 cm tonsil back there. If someone has had the surgery, please email me back to let me know your symptoms and how you did after surgery. I guess right now, I'm a little worried about her.
