Hi! I'm a 22 yr. old student and I suffered from throat infection caused by strep at the age of 8 yrs. I was asked to have an ASO titre in which my count was found to be 800 units. I was immediately placed on intramuscular inhection of Penicillin (12 lakh units) per 21 days. I belong to India where incidence of this disease is higher. I've been taking the prescribed medication on regular basis since I was 8. I take Penidure 12 lakhs on a 21 day basis. Is it harmful to go on taking this medication as I'm fully normal now. I underwent an ASO titre test last year and it turned out to be 150 units. I'll like to know whether I shall continue the medication and till what age. Has such prolonged medication of Penicillin and that too in such large dose will have adverse effects. Thanks. -aatish.
