PKC dystonia

Hello, My 17 year old son has PKC. I also had it as ateenager and outgrew it in my early twenties. My sister had it. There is a definite genetic link. At this point my son does not require medication. His is induced when he is in a in a stopped, sitting, inactive positon to when he moves suddenly or quickly. It is like the mind has not told his body that it is ok to move. His body goes into spasms or contractions, it effects his speech, mostly the left side. It lasts for about 5-10 seconds. He can have many in one day. It seems that stress is a factor. He plays sports and does not hide his episodes. I did as a child and never shared this, since I did not know how to explain it. I think that this has helped him not to have to hide it. I know that dilantin was offered as a choice if my son felt he needed help. Good luck, Cindy
