My mother-in-law just passed away from hepatitis B. Both myself and my husband's brother know from Red Cross blood donorship that we have Hep-B antibodies. At the funeral we learned that half the town in Sicily where my husband's family is from (Comporeale-outside Palermo)is infected with both Hep-B and Hep-C. Also, many that have immigrated here also have the disease - most being in their 60's & 70's. Has anyone heard anything about this? Rumor has it that it was either in the water or was caused by mass vaccinations in the 1930's using same needle for multiple children. Investigation is currently underway but have not been able to find anything on web about it. And since I cannot read Italian I am having trouble with the Sicilian websites. Any info/feedback welcome.
