Matt
I am 15 years old and I had a Ventriculostmy when I was 13. My sister is 23 and has a shunt. I was diagnosed at ten months though. Ventriculostomy is a new prdcedure but it is not to be feared. It was only a 2 hour surgery and four day recouperation in the hospital. I was out of school only for two weeks, my sister alone took two weeks in the hospital. Now I am fully active in Basketball, shot put and in the school band playing the tuba. The only problem I had was staying still and not running for six weeks. Ask your doctor about this procedure. it is less invasive and a lot better. Unlike my sister I don't have to have seven surgeries before I was in Junior high. As a teen with Hydocephalus you can contact me with any questions.
