Carolyn
I was diagnose with latex allergy in May 1999 but had been suffering for years not knowing. There is definitely a lack of awareness and prevention in the healthcare field and noone seems to be doing anything about it. I would love to get media involvement because I wonder how many others are llike me out there. I have been a dental hygienist for 19 yrs. I also suffer fro hayfever and other allergies so I never imagined that I was allergic to my workplace! Every day I would leave work with my eyes swollen and halfway through the day I would need an inhaler due to allergy induced asthma. I assumed that it may have been allergens I may have breathed in outside. I have developed allergies to related foods-avocado,kiwi,banana and am succeptible to more eventually. I cannot wear certain bandages and am panic stricken about the possibility of emergency treatment and wear a mdical alert tag on a bracelet. I am having surgery next month and pray to God someone doesn't forget about my allergy. I would like to help you out get protection in the workplace-this is getting more common as evident from the number of hits on this website. Please contact me at romwill@aol.com. Thank you. Carolyn
