Laura, you were asking possible reasons why this little boy was making clicking noises with his tongue. It is probably just be something he's learned to do and so he does it. You asked if there were any tongue differences in persons with downs. Yes, they are sometimes thick, or long and there can be other unusual traits such as a double uvula, cleft pallet and unusual tooth eruption and structure. They is most always a degree of hypotonia (low muscle tone) in the general body, and the tongue is also a muscle which is another reason why the tongue sometimes pertrudes. I work with children with disabilities and have three children, one of which has downs and so if there's anything else I might be able to answer please just respond to this. Sherri
