My son worked until 930 pm. and came home 30 minutes later. The family all waited for him for dinner. I went through agony after having pizza, italian food, drinking wine, etc. I was given medication for this acid reflux condition. Believe it or not, chocolate ice cream was one of the worst irritants and I still can eat some and feel the affects. By eating earlier and allowing full digestion all of the symptons went away. Its that pepperoni that catches up with you. An MD friend of mind told me that he had the same problem and elevated his bed so that his head would be higher. Well I didn't want to elevate a king sized bed with bricks or lumber. Just changing of eating habits as you get older. I think even a bland diet would subject one to problems. Try not to eat a meal after 6 or 7 pm. the latest if y ou go to bed at 11. Good luck.
