I have been diagnosed with AS for 2 years now. I am 26 and deal with a great deal of pain and discomfort in my lower back and right hip. just the 2 years have been a hellacious battle. I was a nurse, but found it hard to carry out my job description in a wheelchair and in so musch pain. I have been on some pretty heavy meds, but do not take them any more. I was Oxycontin and fentanyl (Duragesic patches) all for pain. Guess what, the pain was still there. SO, after loosing my mind and marriage, I quit the meds and tried an alternative medicine. I studied Rieki, a japanese form of energy healing. Well, I'm not sure if it is just mind over matter or what, But I'm walking again and out of a wheelchair. I still deal with pain from day to day (Sometimes Horrible pain, like the "Kiil me and end my suffering" kind), But I'm dealing with that and learning not to let the disease rule my life. It is a struggle and I don't know what the future holds, but I will continue to fight and live a LONG, GREAT LIFE!
