There are many causes of scoliosis. Mine was first seen in my teens and got progressively worse until 4 years ago, at the age of 42 I was diagnosed with very severe osteoporosis. The dr. at that time told me that the bone degeneration had to have been occuring for 10 or more years to be so severe. Had ohter problems, too...chronic sever anemia for which I could not even obsorb the iron thru diet or pills, had to receive regular IV's of iron for years...UNTIL Sept. 99 I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease!!!! This explained everything. I CANNOT absorb nutrients due to intelorance of gluten (wheat, rye, oats, barley). This is a genetic disease and until recently they thought not common, but testing has proven this to be as common as 1 in 200 people...greater that asthma!!!! That is why I had scoliosis since I was young.
