I have known I had scoliosis since I was a teen ager and basically had no major probelms -- some back pin, but my chirorpractor could ususally handle it. However - I had a hysterectomy in April and moved from recovery from that surgery to disabling back pain. First I was told I just had to exercise and strengthen my abdomenal muscles and did water therapy. The water therapy was good an allows me to exercise when I couldn't otherwise because of the pain. At this point, I cannot stay on my feet longer than 5 minutes or walk or any other normal activities of daily living. Today an orthopedic surgeon specializing in scoliosis advise I should have surgery, but will not operate until I loose 50 lbs. Will the surgery help? -- he says arthritis causes the pain and arthritis is only in joints -- a fusion takes away the joints. --- I am 41 years old and don't want to remain a cripple for the rest of my life. At this point, I am unable to do anything that involves walking or standing. The dr. did not give any alternative treatment. I am anxious to know what other people's results have been. Raejean
