sinusitis

Message 2 of 2 Previous

My heart goes out to your daughter.I've had 2 sinus surgeries myself (both failed), and my sinuses aren't nearly as serious as your daughters. However, what I have discovered is that what I eat greatly impacts how my sinuses feel. It turns out I have a gluten problem (celiac disease), and if I eat a piece of bread, cracker etc. my sinuses literally "inflame" within 45 minutes. I also am allergic to pollens, so I'm certain that also affects my sinuses. My understanding is also after one endoscopic surg. the likelihod of a serious infection becomes much greater after common colds (they don't know why).I would suggest continuing to see a regular ENT doc, but also going to a GOOD naturopath/or md that treats wholistically in your area. "Skin" allergy testing is important to determine "inhalent" allergies". If this is severe you can instigate a house plan, and allergy shot plan. Also, in conjunction some naturopath's do blood testing for food allergies. I found it absolutely useless, and you can have false positives and false negatives. A basic elimination diet is what I'd recommend. Within 2 days off gluten the quality of my life drastically improved. The other type surg I'm still going to check into is laser surgery to my turbinates. Apparently blood vessels in our nasal passages can become dilated like varicose veins. This is why so much stuffiness can occur at night, and to the "lower" sinus when laying in bed. Your daughter is probably colinizing pretty serious strains of bacteria, and probably fungus in her sinuses, so at first to really deal with the acute phase is necessary with prednisone, and long term ABX until the infection is cleared. This should be done in conjunction with an elimination diet, as if she gets cleared up, but has food intolerances and continues to eat the same way, she'll get infected quickly again (becaus of inflammation). My opinion only. Would like to hear how she makes out, I know how this has negatively affected my life. Keep me informed, and God Bless, Cheryl
