I feel as though I am at my witts end with this whole ordeal. I am a RN who is having frequent uti's that are coming progressively worse. I average them once a month with the same organism of >100,000 e.coli/ml. I am now becoming resistant to antibiotics and was advised by my urologist to take Bactrim for 2 months from a last specimen that grew the same thing and Bactrim by mouth was all that I was sensitive to by mouth the rest are the big guys like Amikacin IV and the other strong stuff. While I was on the Bactrim (2.5 weeks into therapy),I developed another 100,000 e.coli now resistant to Bactrim. I received 2 doses of Gent./put in the hospital and nothing was done. Sent home today because a cathed specimen showed no growth. You see it does that and then it springs up again in usually 2-3 weeks. I am so frustrated and I do not think that I am receiving the proper work up and care that I need and deserve at this time. Something is going missed and I am becoming so desparate and in need of some advice. They claim that I contaminate the specimen. However, I have had specimens that were cathed before and grew the same amount of the same bug. Someone please help me and guide me along with what I need to do. Do I need to go to the top urology centers or what. I also was told that I had interstitial cystitis in <98 but just last week my new cystoscopy showed no evidence of this. There are pictures that were taken which showed nothing consistent with IC. Somebody please talk to me and give me some answers. I am searching for an angel right now. Carol Semeniuk
