Carol, I don't know where you live or what kind of medical facilities you have but I would definitely try to find the best doctor I could. I have been having problems like this since I was 5 years old and am 49 now. I have taken so many antibiotics over the years that I have become resistant to many of them. The ONE that DOES seem to help is Macrobid but I just wish I would stop having these problems. I have even thought about having my bladder removed. One thing that does seem to work for me is an anti-inflammatory called Detrol. I'm sure since you are an RN, you are familiar with it. I have had so many physicians over the years and none of them seemed to know what to do. I had a Urethrotomy in 1975 and that seemed to help somewhat but not enough to relieve me of my pain on a consistant basis. My doctor's partner was on-call one night and prescribed the Detrol because he said it sounded like I am having "bladder spasms". I took it and it worked amazingly well! It only took about 1/2 hour to work if that long. I still don't understand why I have bacteria in my urine if all I am having are spasms. Doesn't make sense to me but I don't know what else to do. I am afraid of becoming resistant to the Detrol if I take that too long. Please let me know if you decide to take the Detrol or even if your doctor prescribes something else. I would like to find something that works for me as well. I really wish you all the best because I wouldn't wish this problem on ANYONE.
