KB, Did you ever receive information concerning Efalex (for Dyspraxia), and its positives/negatives? I would appreciate your passing any information on to me. Also, do you know what coding is? To all others with Dyspraxic children, my 2 1/2 year old grandson is Dyspraxic. I have raised four children of my own and now have five grandchildren. I first noticed that Stephen did not make baby sounds as I thought he should. I told my daughter that I was concerned that he might have a problem with his ears and encouraged her to have his pediatrician check. Unfortunately the pediatrician didn't take our concerns seriously and more or less convienced my daughter that he had a sister (18 months older) to do for him. Therefore Stephen didn't have to do for himself. I finally got her to take him to another pediatrician to check his ears. He did have fluid, which was treated with antibiotics. Still not satisfied, I got her to take him to a ENT, who agreed that the fluid was not the only problem. YEA!!! Stephen was lucky in that he was diagnosed Dyspraxic very early (right at 2 years old). He has been in speech therapy since January, 2000. I observed him with his therapist one day and was appalled at the lack of control she had with him. She allowed him to slap her in the face and hit her with objects while she layed on the floor in the middle of toys. Needless to say, I put my two cents worth in again. He now has a wonderful therapist and she demands his attention and knows how to keep it. Yes, one of his symptoms is a behavioral problem. He is doing much better. He does have to be disciplined in a different manner than his sister. The moral to this is, if you see "RED FLAGS" or have doubts, please persue other avenues. It will probably pay off, or you will at least have a second opinion. I realize that we have a long way to go. He suffers from a couple of fobias, has a temper (mostly frustrated) and has a bad speech problem. Otherwise he is extremely smart, understands everything said, can do ANYTHING and do it well. I am interested in any treatments that have have been helpful. Thanks. Dwoodham@legis.state.ga.us
