HELP!!!! I hope there's someone out there that knows something about this particular disorder. Everything tastes weird. And I have this constant smell in my nose. I asked my husband if he noticed a strange smell in the house. "Nope". Then I noticed even when I was out I still could smell something....I can't explain what it smells like. Not metallic, or chemical. It affects the way food tastes as well. I can't even stand smelling someone else cooking. Going into a grocery store is terrible. It seems the more complex the smells, the worse. I've been living on mashed potatoes, white rice, toast. Stuff like that. My husband made lasagna the other day and I had to leave the house. And the real big rip off is I was recently dianosed with hypothyroidism and my metabolism is so slow, I don't even get the added benefits of losing some weight. I eat VERY little. I have to literally hold my nose to get soup down. It tastes like cat pee smells. I miss food. My doctor sent me to a neurosurgeon. He ordered a brain MRI to rule out a brain tumor. Negative, thank goodness. Now I need to see an ENT to see if there's something going on with my sinuses. My doctors just look at me with puzzlement and say "You might have to go to Philly to the University Hosp. They actually have a special department just for the study of olfactory disorders. There must be something that can be done. I can't imagine living the rest of my life like this. It's constant and pervasive. It affects every aspect of my life. It even affects my sleep. The smell is so strong, it't in my dreams and it often wakes me up. I'm sure as a result of this thing, I'm suffering from a severe nutritional deficit. I've been online researching this anomaly and really, the information out there is ambiguous, at best. Not sure what causes it but lots of people suffer with it. If anyone out there has any info or some cool sites to visit to learn more, please share it with me. I'M HUNGRY AND CRANKY! Thankyou!
