i was trying to respond to Mieke's message regarding ic, however, for some reason it was not working. so, if you're reading this, then here is my response and also, questions posted for hopefully others to respond to. i was diagnosed with ic about 5 years ago, but had been symptomatic for a year or so prior to that. i have been on the oral medication called elmiron for about 3 and a 1/2 months (supposedly it takes at least 3 months to have any effect). i have only seen mimimal results thus far. i'm thinking about asking my urologist about antidepressants, as i have heard that they can be effective. has anyone had any luck with this approach, and if so which antidepressant worked. also, has anyone had any luck with elmiron and if so, how long did it take to work. i feel like the only one out there with this diagnosis (though i know there are plenty of people with it - i just don't know any of them). i feel very frustrated, annoyed, and inconvenienced (to say the least) with these symptoms. any advice on coping?
