I am not a parent of a child with SMS, however, my sister just called me to let me know her son (my nephew) has been diagnosed with SMS. He is 22 months old, and they have been looking at everything possible since he was born to see what was wrong with him. Well, 22 months later, this is her answer. Unfortunately, she soes not have access to a computer, so she asked if I could find out some more information. Everything the doctors told her has been posted on the web sites for SMS, but I would like to know more. Can the child go to a normal school? How severe is the mental retardation? How violent can they get? How much self-harm can they do? Will he learn to talk and interact with other children? I hope there are answers to my questions. From what I have read, and understand, this syndrome sounds very challenging for a parent and the child also. I pray that all turns out well for you and your child, as well as my sister and hers. Take care, if you have any updated information on treatment, or anything else please feel free to e-mail me. I will do the same for you.
