I don't know a lot about the problem at this point. What I know is at this point that no one knows what causes it or cures it. I have a good doctor and apparently you can go on forever and not have any problems. On the other hand if you start to notice bleeding or you start to bruise your platelets can drop dangerously low. He says in most cases 2-3 months of steroids makes the condition do away. Apparently something in our bodies is destroying the platelets faster than we can produce them. In worst cases they take out your spleen. He says that most people have no problems after that is removed. I was taking blood pressure medicine and I switched meds and found it was effecting my count as well. I had a bone marrow biopsy and no cancer. But I need to monitor this until it goes away or I need to do something else. Good luck with your child. I would assume that a normal birth should cause no issues as long as they monitor your platelets.
