Have they given your grandmother a prescription called "Lomotil"? I have a deep sympathy for anyone with chronic ongoing diarrhea as my daughter has had this condition for 6 years. Lomotil (or its generic version) is the only thing that helps. Immodium doesn't do a thing. Somedays she must take 2 or 3 pills, but they help her function daily. It is not completely safe and the doctor must prescribe it. In some cases, Lomotil would be dangerous as diarrhea is the body's way of ridding toxins like e. coli, etc. and it contains atropine. It has been a blessing for my daughter who after all of these years has finally gotten a diagnosis of giardia. Hopefully she won't need the Lomotil anymore but I wanted to share this information with you in case no one has told you. I hope it is something that will help your grandmother be able to make her more comfortable and perhaps put on some weight. Try to consult a good Gastroenterologist! -Good luck and God Bless
