My son who is 16 has been treated over the last 13 years for what was thought to be a unicameral bone cyst in his upper femur--he has had two injections of steriods and a 3rd operation with a fibular strut and 2 screws inserted almost 3 years ago-he has had several stress fractures over the years and they were treated by casting, braces, crutches etc--In Jan 99 the cyst had still not healed or filled in and was thought to be fibrous dispaysia--in August we went in again and the cortex is deteriorating--the recommendation is to go in and fill in the area with bone cement and insert a plate on the outside of the bone to support it until the cortex grows out--the 2 screws will be removed(the fibular strut actually was resorbed and is no longer there) Our questions are many but the main one is --Is this the best procedure to do at this point--what are people's experiences with bone cement?
