My eight year old son had this same problem. His tonsils were enlarged for nearly a year. He was eating only soft foods and was losing a lot of weight. I finally took him to an ENT and told him that I wanted him to take his tonsils out. He has had no more problems with swallowing or sore throats since, and is now eleven. Sometimes we just have to stand up for our children and ourselves and find a doctor that will listen. Good Luck.
